"Heroes" Might Get One Final Volume - Associated Content Posted: 04 May 2010 03:27 PM PDT The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the superhero serial Heroes might return for a possible fifth season of 13 episodes. The first volume "Genesis" sets up the series: ordinary people with extraordinary abilities called "specials". They have the ability to fly, absorb powers, read minds, time travel, be indestructible, and more. Some sees them as a blessing and a calling for a greater purpose, while others sees them as both a curse and a burden, for they desire to have a normal life. There are people who knows of their existence and wants to find them for their own hidden agendas, and one "special" killer is hunting them one by one to become even more "special". Still, they all have a role to play in a pivotal battle between good and evil set in New York City, for humanity's destiny is in their hands.Heroes has endure tough competition from FOX's 24 and CBS' popular Monday night comedy block to become a breakout hit and global sensation in the fall of 2006 -- mostly due to the slogan "Save the cheerleader, save the world". However, there have hits and misses with "Generations", "Villains", and "Fugitives" such as having too many characters and confusing and convoluted storylines. For instance, in volume three, several of the worst "specials" from The Company escaped Level 26 while some of the Heroes began embracing their own inner dark side -- leading them to be on opposite sides with their families, allies, and friends. The fourth volume finds one (anti-)Hero betraying them when a relentless Hunter leads a task force to catch the Heroes -- possibly kill them. The show recently completed season four with "Redemption", where the Heroes decided to make amends for what they've done, such as Peter saving lives as a paramedic to atone for his family's sins, and Hiro going in back to work on his bucket list of wrongs he must right -- at the expense of his own life. Even the writers and producers starts seek "Redemption" for the last two seasons by returning to the main premise that made Heroes such a great show four years ago. Sharks 4, Red Wings 3: Detroit squanders two leads ... - Detroit News Posted: 05 May 2010 12:53 AM PDT Chris McCosky / The Detroit NewsDetroit --These are the moments Red Wings coach Mike Babcock always talks about. Down 0-2 in the series, game tied 3-3 and in overtime -- it's an opportunity, a heroic opportunity. The Wings might be out of heroic moments for this season. The heroes wore white and teal on Tuesday. Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau, stars of Babcock's Canadian Olympic gold medal team, stormed in one a 2-on-1 rush 7:07 into the overtime, with only Brian Rafalski back. Advertisement Thornton fed Marleau for the winner, giving the Sharks a 3-0 lead in this Western Conference semifinal. "We had a chance to win this game for sure," Babcock said. "We had lots of opportunity and this is a tough pill to swallow." The Sharks can close it out here on Thursday. "It's real tough," Kris Draper said. "We worked hard to give ourselves a two-goal lead going into the third period and we just didn't get it done. Now we have to come back tomorrow, get our energy up and get this series back to San Jose." A full 60. That's what the Red Wings had to have here to make a series of this and it didn't happen. They won more faceoffs (50 percent), they killed off six power plays, they put more heat on goalie Evgeni Nabokov, they limited red-hot sniper Joe Pavelski to one shot -- they did most of the things they'd failed to do in the first two games. But it didn't matter. "We were better but we weren't better long enough," Babcock said. Goals by Tomas Holmstrom, Danny Cleary and Henrik Zetterberg put the Wings up 3-1 entering the third period. It easily could have been more. Zetterberg had a goal disallowed in the first period by video review, which ruled that he kicked the puck into the net. "No," Zetterberg said. "My skate did not leave the ice. I didn't have a kicking motion. It was a battle with the defenseman and I just tried to stop so I could play the puck with my stick. He pushed me and I was off-balance; kind of hard to be still with your skates." Zetterberg was also robbed by the quick glove of Nabokov on a penalty shot in the first period. "We had a lot of confidence in the group here going out for the third," Zetterberg said. "We thought we played good, created a lot of chances and we just had to keep going, play with patience and keep throwing more pucks at the net." They did the exact opposite. The Wings laid back and the Sharks started circling. "It's always when you have a lead, automatically the other team has to charge a little bit and I think, without knowing it, you back off a little bit," Zetterberg said. It was a fatal mistake. "Everything we did to put ourselves up, we stopped doing and we let it get away from us," Draper said. "If you let them keep coming at you like that, they're going to be dangerous." First Thornton, on a strong individual play, cut the lead to 3-2 at 6:42 of the third. He won a faceoff from Pavel Datsyuk in the Wings' zone, circled the net and then fired the puck past goalie Jimmy Howard off of Datsyuk's stick. It was not Howard's best night. At 13:17, Howard gave up the equalizer, one he would certainly like back. Logan Couture whipped a harmless looking shot from the corner that ricochet off Howard and into the net. "Goalies pick you up lots of times," Babcock said. "Sometimes you've got to pick him up and we didn't do that for him tonight." Howard had no chance on the overtime winner. The Wings fourth line, led by Justin Abdelkader, rushed into the Sharks' zone. Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson joined the rush and when the shot was fired wide and caromed out of the zone, four Wings were trapped and the Sharks leading scorers were charging in on Brian Rafalski. "I kind of thought they might be trapped a little bit," Thornton said. "I tried to move my feet as much as I could. When you see Patty Marleau, that's an easy decision to make (to pass). I made a pass to him and just, great-great play." And potentially a dagger for the Wings. "We just have to go in and win one game," Zetterberg said. "Win the fourth one, we go back to San Jose and start a new game there. "It's not the situation we wanted to be in. But we know it's the first to four and we have to keep playing, keep doing good things and win one game, win two games and then we're right in the mix again." Long oddsOnly two teams -- in 155 series -- have won a playoff series after trailing 3-0. LOS ANGELES — Not even "Boston Rob" Mariano's newborn baby could stop him from returning to "Survivor." Mariano is among 20 former contestants who will compete in CBS' "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains," the reality series' 20th season, premiering Feb. 11 (8 p.m. EST). He left behind 4-week-old daughter Lucia Rose and wife, Amber Brkich, who bested Mariano to win the "All-Stars" edition in 2004 and accepted his marriage proposal during the finale. "If she was out here with me, I don't think I'd have a chance in hell at winning," the former "Survivor: Marquesas" and "All-Stars" player said of his wife. "I think they'd get rid of both of us right away," he said. "With her not here, I think I'll have a little bit of room to maneuver. Hopefully, I can sway some people my way." The cutthroat Mariano will be joined on the "villains" tribe by players such as bratty waitress Courtney Yates ("China"); cantankerous videographer Randy Bailey ("Gabon"); sarcastic cyclist Tyson Apostol ("Tocantins"); and pompous soccer coach Benjamin Wade ("Tocantins"). Mariano's biggest handicap? Not being familiar with new players like Wade. Wade, who calls himself The Dragon Slayer, says his motto is "trust no one, slay everyone." "I'm not going to trust anyone, even people I've played with before. I'd like to say that I can trust Tyson because he and I were rock-solid in the last game. Maybe that's too obvious, and other people will look at that." The cast members — except for "Samoa" bad boy Russell Hantz, who was still filming the 19th season — were individually interviewed in secret last August before production on "Heroes vs. Villains" began in Samoa. It will be the third time on "Survivor" for nine of the castaways, many of whom participated in the "All-Stars" and "Fans vs. Favorites" editions. "I have the opportunity to do something that most people don't even get to do once in their lifetime," said Jerri Manthey, "The Australian Outback" and "All-Stars" mean girl. "I'm doing it three times. Just the opportunityitself is enough reason for me to say 'yes' to this again. I couldn't sit at home knowing they were doing this and be OK with that." The "heroes" tribe will include lovable mentor Rupert Boneham ("Pearl Islands," ''All-Stars"); emotional pinup model Jessica "Sugar" Kiper ("Gabon"); and Texas hunk Colby Donaldson ("Australian Outback," ''All-Stars"), who is hoping Manthey won't be gunning for him this time. "Jerri is like a bad fungus," said Donaldson. "You can get rid of it, scrub it, do whatever you want to clean yourself of it, but eventually it comes back. This is my third game that I've played with Jerri, and she was quite instrumental in getting me out the last time. I don't have an ax to grind. Hopefully, she's gotten the revenge out of her system." Half of the "Heroes vs. Villains" cast are contestants who won or came in second place during their "Survivor" seasons. The four previous $1 million prize winners returning to the game are "villains" Sandra Diaz-Twine ("Pearl Islands") and Parvati Shallow ("Cook Islands," ''Micronesia") and "heroes" James "J.T." Thomas Jr. ("Tocantins") and Tom Westman ("Palau"). "I do feel like I have a target on my back as a past winner," said Westman. "You hope you're not walking into a stacked deck where everyone doesn't want you to get anywhere near the cash. You could get the early boot for that. I acknowledge the danger, but this game is funny. People usually align with people they think can help them get further." Diaz-Twine, the sassy mother of two and bank teller who won in 2003 before game-changing twists such as the Hidden Immunity Idol and Exile Island were introduced, said she isn't worried about trying to outwit, outlast and outplay other "Survivor" veterans — other than "Fans vs. Favorites" winner Shallow. "Who won? Parvati. The rest of them are wannabes," said Diaz-Twine, who declined a spot on "All-Stars" but signed up to participate in "Fans vs. Favorites" only to be cut at the last minute. "They're all trying again to succeed where they failed once then twice. You know what I'm saying? How many times do you have to fail? Come on." The 20th season will be the fifth to feature former contestants. Eighteen castaways were assembled for the "All-Stars" season. The "Guatemala" chapter heralded the return of "Palau" stalwarts Stephenie LaGrossa, who will be on the "heroes" tribe, and Bobby Jon Drinkard. The "Micronesia" 16th season featured a tribe of 10 vets battling a group of fans. The "heroes" team will also include nurse Cirie Fields ("Panama," ''Micronesia"); pageant queen Amanda Kimmel ("China," ''Micronesia"); medical student Candice Woodcock ("Cook Islands"); grave digger James Clement ("China," ''Micronesia"); and on the "villains" side, account manager Danielle DiLorenzo ("Panama"). Richard Hatch, who was convicted in 2006 of failing to pay taxes on the $1 million he earned for winning the Borneo-set first season of "Survivor" in 2000, asked a judge last July if he could leave home confinement early to compete in the 20th season. He argued that any money he earned from the reality show could be used to pay his tax obligations. His request was denied. ___ CBS is a division of CBS Corp. ___ On the Net: http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor/ ___ January 07, 2010 02:16 AM EST Copyright 2010, The Associated Press.
