PHILADELPHIA - A week ago Wednesday night, Niklas Hjalmarsson was having a tough Stanley Cup Final. His two turnovers led to goals that provided the impetus for the Philadelphia Flyers' 4-3 victory in Game 4 that tied the series 2-2. At that point, there was no telling how the young Swede, who turned 23 on Sunday, would respond. In Game 1, a shot by the Flyers' Ville Leino deflected off his head into the net to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. The Hawks recovered to win that one, 6-5. And Hjalmarsson has recovered as well. He played well - with no turnovers - in the Hawks' 7-4 victory in Game 5 at the United Center that put them on the brink of winning the Cup. And he helped put the Hawks even closer with an assist on what nearly was the Cup-winning goal in the second period of Game 6 on Wednesday night at Wachovia Center. Hjalmarsson's slap shot was deflect in by Andrew Ladd to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead with 2:17 left in the second period. It nearly held up as the game-winner. But Scott Hartnell's goal that deflected off Marian Hossa's skate tied the game 3-3 with 3:59 left in regulation. And it still counts as one of the key contributions after Patrick Kane's overtime goal gave the Hawks their first Stanley Cup since 1961. It was a typical contribution from the supporting cast of a team that won the Cup because of its depth and versatility. Ladd's goal. Dave Bolland's pass to Patrick Sharp for a goal. Troy Brouwer, John Madden, Kris Versteeg, Brent Sopel ... the Hawks had a lot of heroes in this postseason. Jonathan Toews was named the Conn Smythe winner as the Most Valuable Player in the postseason. But it could have been Antti Niemi. Or Dustin Byfuglien. Or Duncan Keith. Or Patrick Sharp. ''You could pick a number of guys,'' Sharp said before the game. ''There's no one guy who's most valuable, I guess you could say. We've got so many guys in there, a different hero every night. ''Our goaltender's been strong from start to finish in the playoffs, so I leave that up to whoever makes that decision. But I don't think too many people in this room care who wins if we happen to (win the Cup).'' Five Filters featured article: Into the Abyss. With Heroes out of the picture, NBC is bringing in The Cape, a one-hour drama that features, well, The Cape. The series revolves around ER's David Lyons as Vince Faraday, an honest cop who gets framed for a series of murders and left for dead after a chase. Forced into hiding, he leaves behind his wife Dana (Jennifer Ferrin) and son Trip (Ryan Wynott). But: determined to take the law into his own hands, he trains and becomes The Cape. If other superheroes have capes for aesthetic reasons, The Cape's cape is actually his main weapon. Promo after the jump: Five Filters featured article: Into the Abyss.
