The Pride of Kinston's Home Grown Music Festival will present its third concert tonight in its Sand in the Streets series expansion to spotlight local talent.

Tonight's concert will feature Wes Hazelgrove and KinGator.

When Kinston-born Hazelgrove took his electric guitar with him to start his freshman year at NCSU in 2007, forming a band was nowhere on his list of things to do. But he found his college days to be transformational. He hooked up with four new friends — Kyle Spangler, Jeff Szezneyic-Pumarada, David Lamb and William Davis — and formed KinGator in October 2009. When he hits the books, Hazelgrove is aiming for a degree in English and creative writing.

No two KinGator shows are alike. Each offers heavy improvisation: classic rock and roll, funk beat and bass with jazz idioms, blues riffs and psychedelic space.

Concert patrons also will have an opportunity to support the Lenoir County Red Cross as it kicks off two campaigns — Heroes and Give 5 Saves Lives. The Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign will continue until Nov. 13. A designated Red Cross table will be supplied with holiday cards that the public can sign to send to the troops.

The Give 5 Saves Lives campaign encourages patrons to give $5, and be registered to win a 26-inch HD LCD TV. This campaign will last until Dec. 15.

Donors also may give by going to Give5SavesLives.com. A list of campaign sites are on the website.

Be on the banks of the Neuse River tonight to see what KinGator unpacks and to support the Red Cross.
