Book Review: Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero (by Rick Riordan) - Associated Content Posted: 11 Nov 2010 01:04 PM PST After wowing readers with tales of Percy Jackson, demigod son of Poseidon, Rick Riordan hits us again with a new tale - a new series of tales - about his beloved Percy Jackson and Camp Half-Blood in his latest novel The Riordan begins his tale by placing a new set of demigods in harms way and oblivious to the fact that the gods of Olympus exist high above New York City. This new crew is soon met by our old friends from Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and, after a manic battle above another United States landmark, of course, escorted back to Camp Half-Blood. The entire group hears the latest of the Oracle's prophecies detailing a new and intense battle that will rival those fought in the final days with the Titans and Percy Jackson himself! The trouble is, now, along with a new and frightening prophecy to face, these demigods have lost Percy! Not knowing where our favorite hero is lets us, as readers, who are obviously already involved in the lives of our new demigod crew, attempt to choose our new hero for this latest quest. A nearly impossible task! Our new demigods are Piper MacLean - daughter of Aphrodite and gorgeous in her own rite as well as quite persuasive thanks to her mother's good genes, Leo Valdez - son of Hephaestus and a fire-starter who keeps everyone laughing to hide the fact that he is not confident in his powers, and Jason Grace - son of Zeus himself whose entire memory has been wiped clean in preparation for this latest quest. So how could we choose a favorite? In true form, Riordan draws us in with lightening speed and deadly battles. Describing each monster the children face is just another element we expect - and fear at the same time! By bringing back our familiar heroes and introducing the Roman side of our familiar gods, we are brought to a whole new dimension of Olympian reading. Thank you, Mr. Riordan!
