Sickened Ground Zero workers will soon be getting their piece of a $712 million settlement with the city.

Representatives for the firefighters, cops, emergency workers and hardhats whose health was ruined while toiling in The Pit, along with lawyers for the city, formally inked the deal Wednesday.

"Payments will begin to be sent to plaintiffs within 20 days," said Christine LaSala of the WTC Captive Insurance Company, which was created to protect the city against 9/11 lawsuits.

The settlement was approved by the Ground Zero heroes in November, ending a wrenching legal battle that began when they began falling ill from inhaling toxins at the 9/11 site.

The city, which was slapped with thousands of suits for failing to provide the proper equipment to rescue and cleanup workers, was eager to settle.

Checks to the stricken individuals will be calculated on the severity of their illnesses and other factors. They are expected to provide much-needed financial relief to cash-strapped responders who have waited years for help.

The handful that did not sign on to the settlement - and plan to press ahead with individual suits - are excluded from the Zadroga Bill, the $4.3 billion federal health care coverage bill passed by Congress last month.
