It might not quite feel like the Hollywood Walk of Fame — even aside from the lack of palm trees — but the downtown corridor between Battery Park and City Hall is a well-beaten path where heroes and celebrities have paraded to the cheers and confetti of the city's residents.

A new audio guide allows listeners to take the same footsteps where 204 ticker-tape parades have taken place between Battery Park and City Hall over the past 125 years.

"The Canyon of Heroes" podcast, narrated by Elizabeth H. Berger, the president of the Downtown Alliance, offers a 10-minute audio guide to the history and legacy of the some of history's most notable individuals and sports teams that have been honored along the corridor of Lower Broadway, starting the with Statue of Liberty dedication in 1886. See below for a complete list of celebrations.

"From Theodore Roosevelt to Charles Lindbergh to Jesse Owens," Ms. Berger said, "the parades have offered millions a chance to witness and celebrate the hopes and aspirations of our nation in a signature Lower Manhattan way."

The Downtown Alliance started Lower Manhattan's version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003 to commemorate the Canyon of Heroes' parades with a series of black granite strips set into the sidewalks of the route.

The podcast is available on CultureNOW's Web site, as well as iTunes. A free iphone app, "CultureNOW: A Guidebook for the Museum Without Walls, Lower Manhattan," is also available for download.

With freezing rain in Tuesday's forecast, today might not be the best day to try it out. Better to wait for the thaw.
