The personal injury law firm of Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen today announced the winners of the 100 HOMETOWN HEROES award in celebration of the firm's centennial anniversary.

Nominations for the 100 HOMETOWN HEROES award were accepted from April 19, 2010 to May 7, 2010. The public was asked to complete a nomination form in honor of their favorite local hero. As a result, we received a tremendous outpouring of nominations representing people who have made a difference in a variety of ways throughout Virginia," said Courtney Allen Van Winkle, Partner.

The selected 100 HOMETOWN HEROES represent teachers, firemen, doctors, foster parents, disability advocates, neighborhood role models, and more. Each of the 100 individuals selected represent a unique and inspiring story of giving in some capacity, either on a large scale or through small everyday acts of kindness. The winning 100 HOMETOWN HEROES will be honored at a series of award events taking place in Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Charlottesville. Starting June 16th, the HOMETOWN HEROES will appear at various community festivities, such as Fridays After Five in Charlottesville, the Heritage Festival in Fredericksburg, and at a series of Flying Squirrels baseball games at The Diamond in Richmond. A grand finale will be held on August 25th at a Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball game, at which time all 100 HOMETOWN HEROES will be recognized.

July 3, 2010 -- Heroes from Fredericksburg will be honored at the Annual Heritage Festival.

July 16, 2010 -- One Petersburg "All Star" will be honored at a Flying Squirrels baseball game.

August 10, 2010 -- One Fredericksburg "All Star" will be honored at a Flying Squirrels baseball game.

Joe Girardi Joins Downtown Alliance to Unveil Canyon of Heroes Marker for the 2009 ... - New York Yankees

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi joined the Alliance for Downtown New York on Tuesday to unveil a new granite sidewalk marker in the Canyon of Heroes commemorating the November 2009 ticker-tape parade honoring celebrated the team's unprecedented 27th World Series championship.

"The iconic corridor of lower Broadway has provided a dramatic setting for 204 parades, and we're thrilled to count the 2009 world champion Yankees among the heroes who have been showered with ticker tape and confetti," said Downtown Alliance President Elizabeth H. Berger. "This marker will remind New Yorkers for generations to come of the Yankees' magical run in 2009-their first world championship in the new Yankee Stadium."

"Last year was an incredible year for our team and I'm proud to be here today to commemorate our 2009 World Series championship," said New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi. "There are almost no words to describe the energy and excitement that was in the air on that special day we all shared last November up the Canyon of Heroes. We are so grateful that each and every member of our team was able to share that feeling with our fans and the great people of the City of New York." Girardi and Berger were joined at the ceremony by members of the Downtown Little League Yankees.

For nearly a century and a quarter, some of history's most notable individuals and sports teams have been honored with ticker-tape parades up Broadway's Canyon of Heroes - from Battery Park to City Hall. The first parade, on October 28, 1886, celebrated the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. Eight parades have been held for Yankees and Mets World Series wins, and one was held before the 1954 World Series for the New York Giants, who went on to sweep the Cleveland Indians.

The Downtown Alliance launched New York City's version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003 to commemorate the Canyon of Heroes' parades with a series of black granite strips set into the sidewalks of Broadway.

The strips commemorate the parades for every ticker-tape honoree-a group that includes pioneers of air and space travel, soldiers, sailors and sea captains, heads of state, politicians, fire-fighters, journalists, athletes and even a virtuoso pianist. The Yankees' latest marker will join 178 plaques currently embedded along lower Broadway. An additional 25 markers will be re-installed following completion of the Fulton Street Transit Center.

The strips are part of the Downtown Alliance's Streetscape Program to redesign and update the look of Downtown's streets. The Downtown Alliance's streetscape plan received an award from the City's Art Commission for its uniqueness and elegance. The plan has resulted in the reconstruction of sidewalks and curbs along lower Broadway, installation of new trash baskets, a user-friendly wayfinding and street-sign system and new light poles and bollards.

The mission of the Alliance for Downtown New York is to be the principal organization that provides Lower Manhattan's historic financial district with a premier physical and economic environment, advocates for businesses and property owners and promotes the area as a world-class destination for companies, workers, residents and visitors. The Downtown Alliance manages the Downtown-Lower Manhattan Business Improvement District (BID), serving an area roughly from City Hall to the Battery, from the East River to West Street.

On the other hand, a very offense-oriented player will constantly remain on the battle front.

What is the game rhythm?
An overall "season" will last 6 months in the current pace of the game. Simply connect for a few minutes several times a day to make sure your kingdom is expanding smoothly. It's possible to spend more time on the game if you wish, particularly by getting involved in conquest campaigns or by managing an alliance. This remains a possibility at any time in the game.

Girardi unveils Canyon of Heroes marker - New York Yankees

NEW YORK -- When Joe Girardi was hired as manager of the Yankees in 2008, the three-time World Series champion -- as a player for the Yankees -- embraced the great history of the franchise as well as the lofty expectations and immense pressure that surrounds the winningest team in baseball's history.

He chose No. 27 as his jersey number, representing his quest to bring the 27th World Series title to the Bronx, and just two years later, he had to change it to No. 28.

On Tuesday, Girardi joined the Alliance for Downtown New York in unveiling a granite sidewalk marker in the Canyon of Heroes commemorating the ticker-tape parade held in November after the team's 27th championship.

"There are almost no words to describe the energy and excitement that was in the air on that special day we all shared last November up the Canyon of Heroes," Girardi said in a release. "We are so grateful that each and every member of our team was able to share that feeling with our fans and the great people of the City of New York."

Girardi joined Elizabeth H. Berger, president of the alliance, and members of the Downtown Little League Yankees at the ceremony to add the latest ticker-tape strip on Broadway.

The Downtown Alliance started its series of black granite strips in 2003 to commemorate parades for all ticker-tape honorees, not just sports championships. Soldiers, heads of state, politicians, journalists and athletes alike are all honored on one of New York's most famous streets.
