'Heroes' cancellation: Source says NBC not moving forward with movie that will ... - Entertainment Weekly Online

tim-kringImage Credit: Frank Ockenfels/NBCDon't hold out for closure, Heroes fans: A key source on the canceled drama told EW that NBC is not moving forward with a movie that would wrap up the four-year series. After the Peacock announced the show's cancellation last May, there was some talk about allowing creator Tim Kring to give fans one more chance to say goodbye to their favorite characters, but that's as far as it went.

NBC would not comment Thursday.

In June, Kring didn't sound particularly hopeful about a Heroes sendoff on NBC when he talked to EW about his next project – creating interactive content for Nokia. "No decision has been made," he said. "But the Heroes brand is an extremely broad premise. It was a premise about ordinary people, an undisclosed number of people all over the world, who were waking up to these extraordinary abilities. Any number of stories could happen around that. We never posited a single ending or a single premise.  It wasn't about getting off of an island or stopping something from happening. We told stories in volumes that had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Those volumes could go on and on and on with many different characters. As a result, that Heroes universe is something that can be tapped into again in many ways."  Translation: Any kind of follow-up could happen on the web! Or maybe in print! Just not on NBC during the 2010-11 season, it seems.

Kring's relationship didn't end after Heroes: He sold a script to the peacock called III for the 2010-11 season but it never moved past the development stage. It was about a third world war involving the invasion of the United States.

NBC Not Planning Heroes TV Movie – It’s Over! - ScreenCrave.com

Earlier this year NBC did us a favor by performing a mercy kill on "Heroes."  The fantasy series that showed so much promise during its first season had become unbearable by its fourth. When the series was officially canceled back in May there were a mixed bag of reactions from fans. Some people wanted it to continue so it could redeem itself and others were happy to see it go. There was word that a TV movie might be in the works so they could tie up any loose ends but according to EW, that's not going to happen.

When creator Tim Kring spoke to the site about the future of the show, he made it seem as if there were plenty of new stories to be explored — just not on NBC.

No decision has been made," he said.

As a result, that Heroes universe is something that can be tapped into again in many ways."

In other words, those "other ways" might not have anything to do with TV. Perhaps the web would be the best place for him to explore such material? But even then, do you think any of the actors would return to be on an internet show? What about a theatrical release? Nah, I'm barely interested in a TV movie let alone one that I'd have to pay 10 bucks to see.

Do you want a Heroes movie? Are you fine where the show left off?

Memorial Fund for Company of Heroes Designer - Toms Hardware

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 04:07 PM PDT

Company of Heroes fans wanting to help Brian Wood's family can now make a donation.

Tuesday we reported that Relic Entertainment's Brian Wood was killed in an auto accident last Friday. Known for his work on the Company of Heroes series, Wood died as a hero of his own design by taking the brunt of the impact, saving his wife and unborn first child. Had he not made the split-second decision to hit the brakes and jerk the car to the right, it's believed that all three passengers would have been killed.

"I am not quite sure how I am supposed to live the rest of my life without [Brian]," wife Erin Wood said after the accident. "He truly was a gift and I wouldn't change a thing of any of our moments together. (The baby is) due Nov. 5 so it will come quick and then I look forward to seeing little glimpses of Brian in our baby and that gives me a lot of strength right now."

To help Erin through the difficult days ahead, Radical Entertainment has established a memorial trust fund located online here. "Brian was a very close friend," said Szymon Mazus of Radical Entertainment. "He was just the kindest, most down to earth person you could ever hope to meet, as is Erin. We have set up a trust fund to help Erin and the baby during this very difficult time."

To make a donation, Canadian residents can head to any North Shore Credit Union branch in the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia. Donations can also be made through PayPal or through regular (snail) mail, both of which are listed on the Brian Wood Memorial Trust page.

'Heroes' TV Movie Rejected By NBC

Tim Kring's superhero series won't get closure, at least not on TV.

Back in May when the cancellation of "Heroes" was announced, popular speculation held that "Heroes" would possibly return as a TV movie or as a miniseries to wrap up the lingering plotlines. However, it now appears that the opportunity has past.

Entertainment Weekly is citing sources close to the network who claim that NBC has decided to not move forward with a "Heroes" TV movie. NBC declined to comment officially.

Earlier this summer, "Heroes" creator Tim Kring spoke out about the prospects for the series' return.

"No decision has been made," said Kring. "But the 'Heroes' brand is an extremely broad premise. It was a premise about ordinary people, an undisclosed number of people all over the world, who were waking up to these extraordinary abilities. Any number of stories could happen around that. We never posited a single ending or a single premise."

"['Heroes'] wasn't about getting off of an island or stopping something from happening," continued Kring. "We told stories in volumes that had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Those volumes could go on and on and on with many different characters. As a result, that 'Heroes' universe is something that can be tapped into again in many ways."

A "Heroes" season five comic book has also been rumored as a possibility, but thus far there are no indications that a new "Heroes" comic will happen either.

Although the "Heroes" appear to be gone for now, two of the former series stars will be featured prominently this fall: Masi Oka has signed on for the "Hawaii 5-0" revival on CBS and Ali Larter will appear in the film "Resident Evil: Afterlife."
